Why does my dog throw up breakfast every morning, but not dinner?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Female | 12 lbs

My 8 yr old pekignees suddenly started regurgitating her breakfast every morning. Usually within 10 minutes after eating. She does not do that with her nightly meal she is very healthy and happy. Can u think of any reason why she may be doing this with only her morning meal? Thank you. Cynthia

One possibility could be that Itsy is going too long between dinner and breakfast, and is having some acid reflux/stomach upset that causes her to vomit her morning meal, and that the time between breakfast and dinner is short enough that this doesn't happen. If that's the case, splitting her meals into three (and giving one right before bed) or giving a small treat before bed or first thing in the morning may help to settle her stomach some and let her keep her meal down. However, with any change in behavior or new symptoms that appear, a complete workup from your vet is best to rule out any more serious issues such as something wrong with the throat or esophagus, illness, etc, just to be on the safe side.
