Why is my pet's nose pink, flaky, or scabbed? When to see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 months and 9 days old | 9 lbs

A couple days ago, I noticed Skye's nose was pink on one side (shown in pic). The color has changed and it looks almost flaky sometimes scab-like, shown in other 2 pics. She eats out of a metal dish, has been eating a food she has had on the past. I'm wondering if this could be from rough-housing with Storm, or if it is a possible allergy or medical issue. Suggestions on care and what to look out for and when i should take her to the vet? Skye's not acting different nor has gotten into anything.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral or topical ) are needed to solve the problem. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any).
