My budgie's poop is green and wet. Is it sick if it's active?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello! Recetnly my two budgies (not sure which one) has started having greenish, kind of wet droppings. However both of them play and eat and chirp all day long, so ipIm not sure if they're sick or not. Pluto, the green budgie, we think is molting, so is that why? Neptune, the blue bird is very happy too, so Im confused! Thanks

Thanks for reaching out about your budgies and including pictures. Several things can change to color and consistency of the droppings: including dietary changes, hormones, stress, and some diseases. With greenish stool, liver changes are a common finding. This also can represent dietary concerns or disease. Have your birds ever been tested for chlamydophila (psittacosis)? If the stool changes is persistent, seek an appointment with an avian veterinarian. Birds are very good at hiding when their sick. Try eliminating fruits for a few days if you offer, as the high sugar content can increase water consumption, thereby urination. Good luck.
