My dog makes a strange noise. Is it a reverse sneeze? When to worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My yorkiepoo is making a weird noise. It might be a reverse sneeze but I’m not sure. How can I tell? It’s been happening 3-4 times a day for the last 4 days.

Tha k you for submitting your question regarding your dog. A reverse sneeze sounds like a sneeze that goes inwards instead of out. It is a snort like sound. If it is happening this frequently, then it can be a sign of a respiratory tract infection. I recommend that you have him/her evaluated by a veterinarian. This will confirm the noise is a reverse sneeze. Bring a video of an episode if you can as this will help. Then treatment can be prescribed if necessary. I hope this information helps!
