My dog has black, wet poop. Is this a sign of internal bleeding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Our dog was diagnosed with liver or kidney failing because his skin, gums and eyes became yellowish when we brought him to vet yesterday. The vet put an iv on his hand because he hadn't eaten any food since he became sick lastweek. He was just drinking and vomiting. The vet also adviced us to comeback tomorrow. Just this early morning my mother saw him discharge a very black and wet poop. What is the indication of this black, wet poop? How many days will our dog feels better? Thank you so much.

The black feces are usually suggestive of a bleeding in the upper part of the gastrointestinal system. The black discoloration is due to digested blood. It is difficult to give you a prognosis as more clinical informations would be required.
