My dog suddenly stopped eating. Should I switch to wet food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

Our dog Tink ya been eating the same food for about 6 months. No dietary changes. She is still as active as she has been since we got her. All of a sudden she quit eating at dinner, now as of this morning she won’t eat at all. We have called our local vet( now closed for the weekend), they said she may have lost interest in her food so we got another flavor( all dry food since we got her) she won’t eat that either. Should we switch to a wet food? Please help.

You can try a wet food, however I would fast her for 24 hours and then feed her a bland diet of boiled white rice with boiled white boneless chicken for a day or two and hopefully she will eat that. Feed it warm as it will have a better aroma. You can then slowly replace some of the mix over a few days with the new food (do try wet food). Feed her small amounts several times a day and take away the food after ten minutes. This may entice her to eat better. If she still does not eat by Monday morning or if she appears ill, lethargic before that, she will need to be seen by a veterinarian or PetER as she may be ill.
