My dog is peeing blood with clots but acting normal. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 1 year and 10 months old | 25 lbs

I went on a hike with my dog today, and noticed blood around her vagina. I came home and washed her and didn’t find any wounds around/on that area. She got up to pee on her pee pad and peed a ton of blood. Seemed to have some clots. She’s acting completely normal. What could this be? What should I do? My dog is a terrier/Pomeranian mix and has never done this before.

It could be that Lacey has a UTI or bladder stones causing the blood in her urine. It could also be due to something more serious such as leptospirosis or toxin exposure. This is something that needs to be checked out by a vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose the cause of the blood in her urine, and can treat her for it. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
