Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 19 years and 9 months old | 7 lbs
Our 19 year cat strained painfully to poop on Sat. We took him immediately to the vet, the cat had a large long hard feces. He got an enema there and part of the feces came out. Another enema on Sun and pooped. He has had lactulose 3 times a day ever since Sat, but he does not poop. He has arthritis kidney diaease. Is thete anything we can do to help him? Do we have to put our beloved cat down? He eats, drinks, wants petting, wants attention. Is it possible bowel just does not move anymore?

It is possible the severe constipation affected the nerves or muscles used in defecation. He may return to normal after a period of time. Consider having him rechecked by your veterinarian. There are medications that can be used to help with defecation. Feed a canned diet and increase water intake. Both may help make defecating easier.
