Why does my 4-month puppy pee in her crate? Potty training help.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My puppy is about 4 months old. I'm still working on potty training her but it seems like its taking forever for her den instinct to come in...she will go outside to potty and usually.won't go in the house unless I'm preoccupied with my children and not paying attention but still goes in her crate...what can I do to stop this or help develop her den instinct?

Since she is holding it when you are attending to her then I would recommend putting her in a crate when you cannot and are attending to your children. This way she doesn’t have the opportunity to go in the house. Typically with crate training we recommend when you cannot watch them 100% putting them in the crate.
