Why does my dog have a bump on its nose that drains pus and blood?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 6 years and 10 months old | 84 lbs

My dog (black lab/great Dane mix) has a small bump on his nose below his eye. I bumped it one time and what looked like pus drained put and then started to bleed. It has grown a little bit but not too much. It will still drain pus and then blood from time to time. We have seen him itching around it from time to time but not very often. It is usually skin colored but turns red if it is messed with. I still intend on taking him to a vet when I can afford it, but i am very curious...

This looks like a mass that appears to get infected on and off. I recommend you have your veterinarian examine this mass. Your vet may want to remove it permanently so it cannot get infected any more and ooze pus and blood or at least take a tissue sample from it to determine whether it is a malignant or benign growth.
