My dog won't eat or drink and is lethargic. Is it time for the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 16 lbs

Kona ate her breakfast yesterday around 7am and hasn't eaten since. She wouldn't eat dinner or her breakfast today, is sleepy/cuddly (not her usual crazy self) and isn't drinking water. She has had belly upsets before and bounced back after a day or so. When should I be concerned enough to take her to the vet?

I would recommend bringing her to your regular veterinarian especially if she is lethargic. Even if she just has an upset stomach they can provide her with fluid support to help hydrate her. She may have just an upset stomach, but it can always be more serious like a foreign body or pancreatitis. I hope Kona feels better and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
