Why is my budgie breathing heavily? How can I get her to eat veggies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female

My budgies were flying around the room for about 3 hours. I put them in the cage and they looked pretty tired, one leg up, blinking slowly and ruffled up. I noticed while sleeping my females tail was moving up and down very slightly and her breathing is more obvious than the male only slightly. You can see the chest movement. Does this mean she has a respiratory issue? Also how do I get them to drink water and eat veggies? They only and only eat seeds, put everything in. Thankyou

I think your suspicions may be correct as the signs you described could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly to a chronic rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
