That is likely to be due to a soft tissue or ligament injury. Fractures needs to be ruled out as well. I would recommend an immediate check up to determine the underlying injury more specifically and treat appropriately. Sedation and x rays may be needed. Anti inflammatory and maybe stronger pain relief meds (like opioids) are usually prescribed.
