My tiny kitten is constipated and won't eat. Should I syringe feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 7 days old | 3.3 lbs

I have a 10 week old kitten that was part of a litter my cat had, he is more like 6/7 weeks as he is tiny! He recently has been constipated so I took him to the vet, he had an enema and fluids and two doses of lactulose however he still hasn't passed anything significant, I'm worried as he's not interested in food, should I syringe feed him some food and/or milk to try to keep his weight up? He has the vet again tomorrow just worried as he is so so small

I would certainly try and get a little food into him as cats don't do well without eating for long periods of time. More than a few days can result in liver problems. Try making a gruel out of dry food wetted with low-sodium chicken broth or wet food thinned with water or chicken broth. Be very careful feeding him with a syringe as it is so easy to go too fast and overwhelm him. You don't want to complicate matters by causing him to aspirate the food.
