Why is my cat suddenly hiding, scared, and not eating or drinking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 10 lbs

My cat suddenly started hiding under the bed. If we can get him to come out, he's constantly watching the door like he's scared. He won't come out to eat, drink or use his litter box. He will eat if we put food under the bed with him but we have to force water in him with a bottle. He's been doing this for 5 days now. He's normally very social at home and we haven't noticed anything different around the house. What could be causing this and what do I need to do?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Little Man. He needs to see his veterinarian as there could be an underlying illness causing his symptoms. Cats can actually develop severe liver disease if they go too long without eating normal amounts. He may need blood and urine samples tested. The veterinarian will also perform a complete physical exam to determine if he is painful anywhere. In the meantime, keep bringing him food and water to his hiding place. Good luck!
