Why is my kitten sick and not eating after spay and vaccines?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have 3 4 month old kittens that got spayed and neutered on Saturday. They also got rabies and FVRCP vaccines. One of the girls is feeling bad today. Yesterday she was fine, running around and eating normally. Today she doesn’t have an appetite and just lays curled up and doesn’t want to move. She only ate a couple treats. The picture is her spay site. Should go feed her a lot of treats so she gets some nutrition? What are the possible causes of this behavior?

It sounds like she may be having a vaccination reaction. It is possible that she could be having a complication from the surgery but a vaccine reaction is more likely. I think you should get her back to the vet for an exam so you can get a diagnosis and can get the proper treatment. She will likely need some anti-inflammatoy medication and some fluids (at minimum). I suggest not waiting too long to get her treatment. Kittens this young go downhill very fast when sick and not treated promptly. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
