My 8-month-old cat is vomiting small, watery amounts. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 months and 27 days old

My eight month old cat vomited yesterday and it seemed to be a hair ball so I didn’t think much of it but she vomited again today and I don’t know what the cause is or what to do to fix it. I don’t believe she has eaten anything unusual. Her stool is normal. The vomit was a small amount and consistent to the amount from yesterday it was also watery. She’s acting the same as usual. She is slightly overweight so I have changed her portions starting about two weeks ago

She may have a hairball that she was unable to vomit up. Sometimes they move in the stomach and it takes a few days for them to be vomited up. Also many cats routinely vomit if they eat too fast. As long as she’s acting normal this is nothing to be overly concerned about. Should the vomiting continue or she stops eating then a veterinary exam is recommended.
