Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd - miniature | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 18 days old | 10 lbs
Hi, I picked up a mini Australian shepherd a few days ago. He is 10 weeks old and seems perfectly healthy (runs around like a nut, eats a lot, and is very playful). However, his nose has been dry since I picked him up. I know this could mean that he is sick or that he is dehydrated. I have an appointment with the vet on Wednesday morning but am nervous that if it is an illness that that may be too late. Should I be concerned and take him in tonight instead? Thanks!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is actually not necessarily accurate. This does not necessarily mean that he is dehydrated or sick in any way. If he is doing well otherwise, you can just have him evaluated at the time of your appointment on Wednesday. Enjoy your pup! Have a great day!

Congratulations on your new addition! How exciting! It is actually just an old wives tale that dog's noses should always be wet and cold. There is a lot of variation that can be normal. If Jax has any other signs that are concerning, it is never wrong to have him evaluated, but if everything else seems normal, then it should be fine to wait to have your veterinarian examine him on Wednesday. I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
