My cat meows loudly in the litter box. Is it a health concern?

I recommend to have her examined then. Vocalization in the box could indicate pain. if it happens while urinating, it could be a bladder infection. If it happens during a BM, it could be a too dry or sticky bowel. Since she can't talk, you need to have her examined. I hope this helps.

Yowling at the box and trying to go potty or dribbling/only going a little is very concerning. While it could be hormone/spraying related, I would be worried there is a severe UTI or even a blockage that requires treatment if he is constantly vocalizing at the box or going to it very often. What you are describing could be an indication of a fecal impaction, megacolon or something causing an obstruction. If he is not producing any urine either, he may be dealing with a urinary tract obstruction, which can be very serious if left untreated. Poor Tom! I would be suspicious that Tom is dealing with some sort of urinary tract issue. Neutered male cats are very predisposed to urethral obstruction-a stone or plug forms in the urethra and means they cannot urinate. Visiting the litter box frequently with little/no urine production is a very common sign. If Tom IS producing urine in his box then I would suspect a urinary tract infection or cystitis. Either of these issues require immediate veterinary intervention. A urethral obstruction can be life threatening. Please take Tom to your vet as soon as possible-they can do a thorough physical exam to help determine the nature of the problem. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Penguin! His symptoms are strange and possibly indicate pain. My biggest concern would be if he is having trouble urinating. Check his litter box and see if there is urine present. If there is no urine (and that is unusual) or if there are small drips of urine then I would take him to the Vet. If he gets up follow him to see what he does. Check the house for vomit and be sure he is eating. Any excessive grooming of his penis may also indicate a urinary problem. Sometimes older cats do develop litter box issues. The increase in meowing could be symptom of hyperthyroidism which is relatively common in older cats. The peeing outside of the box could be due to a medical issue such as kidney failure, bladder stones, a bladder tumor, or any condition that would make her drink more and pee more (hyperthyroidism or diabetes to name a few). It could also be harder for her to get into the litter box if she is experiencing some arthritis. Take her to your vet for some senior bloodwork and a urinalysis. If everything is normal, there are some things you can do to encourage her to get back to using the box.
