Is my 4-week-old kitten's morning-only poop normal? How much to feed?

Okay this morning my 4 weeks kitten poop a little bit just like yesterday morning. Is it good enough? The thing is, she only poop in the morning but not at night. It's been 2 days. I'm worried. And how much per day should I feed her milk and wet food?

As long as Okoye is pooping at least once a day, I wouldn't be too worried about her. I would be concerned if she wasn't pooping at all. Make sure the milk you are giving her is kitten milk replacer or a specific cat milk. Cats are lactose intolerant and shouldn't be given cow's milk. I would feed her at least three times a day with wet food. This is because wet food can dry out quickly and become unappetizing to her, leading her to not eat it. You can mix together wet food and dry food for her, or just feed her dry food. If you feed her dry food, you can leave the food out all the time. Feed her three times a day with the wet food until she is six months old, and then you can feed her twice a day. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Congratulations on your new kitten! So far, it seems sounds like you're doing everything correctly. Pooping twice a day is completely normal. I also recommend feeding twice daily, just as you are doing. Brands that I commonly recommend feeding are Science Diet, Purina ProPlan and Royal Canin. If you choose to make a change in her diet, do so by gradually mix in the old and new foods together over 5-7 days. You can choose to feed exclusively wet or dry food, or a mix of both. This is largely a matter of personal preference. Be sure that you are feeding a food formulated for kittens or "all life stages" to aid in growth. She should continue to eat kitten food until 1 year of age, at which point you can transition to an adult cat food. Enjoy your new little kitten!

Hello. At 4 weeks of age, your kitten should be well on the way to eating solid food. I would prepare a dish of wet cat food mixed with a little kitten milk replacer & offer her this 3 times a day. If she still wants the bottle, I would only be doing this twice a day to encourage her to eat the solid food. A kitten this age will probably have 2-3 bowel movements in a 24 hour period. Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! You should offer a small amount of food about 3-4 times daily and in really small kittens, every few hours might be needed. Eliminations and the frequency thereof, are dependent on many things depending on food intake, type of food, water intake etc. As long as she is not straining and trying to poop, it could be up to another 24-36 hours. She is getting accustomed to her new and that is probably slowing up the fecal elimination process. Again, no straining to have a bowel movement usually means that everything is ok, especially if the kitten is eating and drinking normally. Just keep monitoring for a bowel movement and monitor behavior, appetite, etc. If things change and you are unsure have your veterinarian evaluate the kitten. I hope everything works out ok.

Small, frequent meals are best. Start with 3cc every few hours and then gradually increase the amount every few days by 1-2cc per feeding. Don't get up in the middle of the night to feed unless you want to. She should be fine to eat during the day until you go to bed and then again starting in the morning. I would try to avoid giving milk unless you use kitten milk replacer (ie: ESBILAC). The majority of cats are lactose intolerant (believe it or not) and dairy products can end up causing diarrhea and other issues. You are better off syringing mushed up kitten food or human baby foods (meat flavors). If you need to, add water to get it more liquidy. It can be normal that a kitten only poops once a day. As you know by now, you have to stimulate them to pass urine and feces, and those are not always produced after every feeding. As long as they are passing stool at least once a day, it's fine. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Skyler is super cute! I would feed her just canned kitten food. Stop the formula, there is no need for that at almost 8 weeks. Kittens should defecate twice daily and probably urinate double that amount. Feed canned food for the next week then slowly try to add dry in. Watch the straining and for diarrhea. She should be seeing a vet soon for her first exam, deworming and vaccine. Bring a stool sample. The vaccines should be started around 7-8 weeks of age. Good luck!

At 10 weeks of age your kitten should be able to eat kibble just fine. You should not need to add canned food to her diet unless you want to do it occasionally as a snack/treat. You may want to moisten the food with water before feeding her. Soft food can certainly lead to softer stools but you should make sure she has been dewormed too. I hope this helps. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! So cute! Koa maybe trying to make up for lost time! I would bring her in to the Vet for an exam and deworming. Intestinal parasites may be competing with her nutritional needs. At 5 weeks I do not think you need to use the formula any more. I would feed her 3-4 times per day and leave some dry food down. Be sure you are feeding kitten food. I wish you and Koa the very best!

I have (what I think) is a 4 week old kitten. I have had him for two days and he takes a bottle fairly well and eats gruel. I am able to get him to pee but not poop. Should I take him into a vet?
Weigh him and you can determine his age. Kittens gain about 3.5 ox of weight per week. So if he weighs 14 to 15 oz, he is 4 weeks old. He will still need kitten milk and instead of gruel you should offer canned kitten food in small amounts. Feed him 4 times a day plus about a table spoon full of kitten food per day. Over the next three to four weeks slowly replace the milk with the food. He is still young enough that he may have to be stimulated to poop and pee. So take a warm moist paper tissue and gently rub his anus. This will stimulate him to poop. Clean him afterwards. Do the same with urination, even when he appears to urinate by himself. He looks very sweet. You may want to worm him with kitten wormer as well.
