Poor John! This swelling on his neckline could be due to a dental problem such as a tooth root abscess, or it could be swollen lymph node. If he's acting differently than usual (i.e being mellow), then clearly there is something going on with him that requires a visit to the vet. Given he is eating and drinking fine, it's ok to wait until Monday to have him seen by a vet but I wouldn't wait longer than that. The vet can diagnose what is causing the swelling and how best to treat it. Good luck, I hope this helps!

It's a little difficult to tell what exactly is swollen in your picture, but it's possible that Frankie has an enlarged salivary gland or lymph node, or something like an abscess. All of these things can occur suddenly. I would recommend having your vet take a look - they might be able to get a better idea from being able to see and feel the swelling in person. They might recommend taking a sample using a small needle (fine needle aspirate) if it seems like a lymph node or salivary gland is swollen.

My dog Knuckles, near his neck has swollen on his left side. The swollen part is firm to the touch. He is still able to breathe normally and drink normally, but his appetite isn't how it normally is.
HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Knuckles! I would make an appointment for Knuckles to see his Vet. The swelling can be from an infected or inflamed salivary gland or lymph node. He could also have an abscess from foreign material penetrating the mouth or from the outside, be experiencing an allergic reaction or possibly even have a tooth root abscess. An enlarged lymph node can also be from lymphoma, a type of cancer. Usually though more than one lymph node is swollen if a dog has lymphoma. I hope this helps and I wish Knuckles a speedy recovery!

My daschund who is 8 years old and male has a swollen ball on his right neck. He is acting completely normal but how likely is this lump cancerous? How likely is lymphoma in this situation?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This could in fact be an enlarged lymph node. The fact that it is just in one place, if it truly is just one lymph node, makes lymphoma less likely. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. I recommend you have Frankie evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!

This mass is quite large. I would definitely have your vet do an aspirated and cytology of it while it is there. The fact that it is changing in size makes me concerned that it could be a salivary mucoceole, an infection, or even a mast cell tumor (cancerous but least likely). These can all be serious and some may need medication and or surgery. If it is a salivary mucoceole they may just recommend to continue to watch it since it is getting small sometimes, but I would rather know for sure what it is. I hope this helps!

It is hard to tell from the photo exactly but I am worried about the location of the lump. Dogs have lymph nodes in that area than can become enlarged with lymphoma :( I'm not trying to scare you but that is one possibility. Of course there are other things that it could be: reactive lymph node (not cancer but just inflamed), fatty tumor (benign), cyst, abscess. Your vet will certainly be able to give you a better idea after an exam but be prepared that some testing may be needed. Namely, a fine needle aspirate of the lump and some bloodwork. If Hank has an infected tooth, that could certainly explain his symptoms. If the tooth is painful, he may not want to eat normally and may just not feel well. If the lump on the neck is a lymph node that is draining the infected tooth, that could also be related. So, I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Hank tomorrow to see what they think and to determine how to treat Hank. Good luck! Thank you for your question. A lump the size of a cupped fist on the neck of a 10 lb dog is a big lump!! I can't tell you exactly what it is, but there are a few possibilities. Depending on the location, an enlarged lymph node is possible, but that is pretty huge for a lymph node. I would suspect this is either an abscess or a tumor. You will want to get Zuki to the veterinarian so they can perform a fine needle aspirate, which is where they use a needle to collect cells and look under the microscope to make a diagnosis. If this is just an abscess, they might be able to lance and drain it and make Zuki feel much better. If this is a tumor, it will not be so simple. Until you can get to the veterinarian, you can trim the hair, and place a hot pack over the area for 10 minutes several times a day. If it is an abscess, this might help it break open and drain. But don't wait long to seek veterinary care, as it could get much worse. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

My dog has a bump under his eye. It doesn’t bug him, not painful. he is eating regularly, drinking regularly and acting perfectly normal
I can definitely see a lump or swollen area under his right eye. This could be due to a tumor of some kind, a localized inflammatory reaction or infection, or an abscessed tooth root. If he's acting normal, I would not consider this to be an emergency, but he does need to be seen by your veterinarian tomorrow if possible. He/she can palpate the area to help determine what is causing the swelling, and will advise you on what kind of treatment is needed depending on what is found.

Poor Baldric! This swelling could be due to trauma, it could be a lymph node swelling due to a localized infection or tooth problem, a reaction to an insect bite, or it could be an abcess. Given the absence of any additional signs, I would monitor Baldric for now. Should the swelling still be present in the morning, I. Would take him into the vet. If he shows up additional signs tonight such as difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, extreme lethargy, or anorexia, then I would take him into a vet right away.

There are many possibilities, an absess, blocked salivary gland, insect bite or injury would be the most common causes for rapid swelling. The reduced appetite is a concern, this may be due to discomfort, narrowing of the throat or fever. If this persist or increases overnight he should be checked by your vet, monitor for any changes to his breathing which would require an emergency visit
