Is it safe to take my puppy's water away two hours before bed?

A trainer recommended I put away my puppy’s water two hours before bedtime. Is that safe as far as water needs go for a developing puppy?

Yes, it's fine to take Jack's water away at night but be sure to take him out to potty right before bed and you will probably need to take him out at least once in the middle of the night. First thing in the morning when he wakes up, offer him water. I hope this helps!

Congrats on your new puppy! Take Maximus's water away 2-3 hours before bedtime, and have him go potty right before he goes to sleep. When he is fully house trained when he is older, you can leave water out all night. Best of luck.

He can be fed dinner in the evening, then take up the water about 2 hours before you go to bed or out him to bed. He should be taken outside or placed on the pee pad just before bedtime. He should not be allowed to roam unsupervised inside as long as he is not fully house trained. He should be on a leash attached to your hip or crated. The crate should only be large enough for him to stand, turn around and lay down. Cues that he may need to go out include circling, whining, sniffing about or pacing.

I have a 5 year old Labrador he drinks loads and as put on wait. But he gets me up twice in the night to go to the toilet. But in the day he stays in while I work for seven hours . How can I stop him getting me up.
I would take away Marley's water at least an hour or two before bed, and then take him out to potty right before bed. Reducing his access to water before bed should hopefully keep him from needing to potty twice in the night. You can also crate him at night, and that will help him hold his bladder overnight.

How can I SAFELY reduce/monitor Penny’s water intake so she does not have to pee in the middle of the night?? We are still potty training and Penny is peeing on my bed in the middle of the night.
Take up her water bowl about 2 hours before bedtime and walk her or let her outside just before you go to bed. At her age, it is not likely she will have the control or be able to last all night without having to go outside at least once for relief. The general rule for a pup is to allow no more than 1 hour per month of age plus one hour before being given a "potty break". This translates to a potty break at least once every 4 hours for Penny.

Is it ok not to leave water for my puppy overnight?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I would highly advice that you leave water available for Toby at all times, including overnight. This is always true for dogs as it is hard to know when exactly they will feel the need of drinking water but it is especially true for puppies as they are a bit harder to predict. Water will prevent dehydration. Have a good evening!

If he is asleep, let him sleep but take him out immediately after he wakes up to go. He should also go out with in 30 minutes of eating and drinking. If you notice him stop playing and start circling, then this is an indication he is about to go. Your time frame is good for waking hours, but through the night, you may have to let him out once until he gets a little bigger to hold it through the night.

Your pet can become dehydrated if they don't get enough water, which over time can cause damage to their kidneys. The kidneys need constant water in order to function well, so when the body is depleted of water, they have to work overtime to concentrate the urine, and this eventually can damage the internal structures of the kidneys. Taking up water at night isn't enough to cause a pet to become dehydrated enough to cause concern for pet owners. Killer might be drinking his urine because he is bored isolated in a room by himself at night. He also might be trying to hide the evidence of an accident if he gets in trouble for peeing in the house. Killer is a young puppy, and he will need to be let out to potty in the night to prevent this. He can be in a crate in his own room, but I would get up at least twice in the night to let him out to potty. While dogs do drink their urine, it's not a behavior that should continue and I would let him out at night a couple of times to keep him from peeing in the house and drinking it.

You've listed Grizzly as 2 months old, and this is still WAY too young to be holding it that young. Puppies do not have developed bladders that can hold their urine that long until they are about 8-9 months of age. The rule of thumb is one hour for every month old your pup is so Grizzly should be going out at a minimum of every two hours. Puppies generally also need to go potty about 15 minutes after waking up, playing, eating, or drinking, so you can use that to start timing his outings and make it a success. Since he is very young, he will also likely need to go out to go potty 1-2 times in the night, even if crate training. I do not recommend withholding water at all as this can lead to health issues.
