My dog has gray liquid discharge from her eye. Is it KCS or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog has gray liquiding stuff in the corner of her eye and I have read that something similar is the beginning of KCS which causes blindness. What is your opinion? I have attached a photo of what it looks like

This looks like normal eye discharge similar to the sleep we produce. It is a normal colour but there does appear to be a fair bit. There could be some sort of irritation to the eye causing more production or there could be a blockage to the outflow tract. I think it would be best to get an ophthalmic exam performed. This discharge is likely completely normal but as you are concerned it would be good to check. As for KCS usually the eyes ate very dry which can then predispose to irritation and infections, in this case the eyes look bright. However the vet can easily heat the eyes to make sure they are producing enough tear which will put your mind at rest.
