Rabbit snuffles: Is Tylosin safe for my rabbit's breathing problems?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 12 days old | 2 lbs

My rabbit has white nasal discharge accompanied by a low pitch deep cracking noise when breathing. He still eats and drinks but seems lethargic. The rabbit is 4 months old and is male. I went to a vet and he prescribed tylosin and some vitamins. Told me to give him 1.5 ml per day of each. Tldr: is tylosin safe for rabbits and can it cure snuffles????

No, Tylosin is definitely not the antibiotic for this condition, in fact it should not be used at all in rabbit and can cause a rabbit fatal diarrhea. the antibiotic your rabbit needs for this condition is Baytril (enrofloxacin) 10mg/kg twice a day for 3-6 weeks.
