My cat has a head injury, bleeding scab, and a bump. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 2 months old | 5 lbs

Our cat came home 3 days ago with a head injury shown in the pictures. At first it was well scabbed over so we could not determine the depth of the wound. Since then the scab has come off several times. When this happens, it bleeds with no sign of infection. We are not sure how the injury happened. He has developed a bump on his head next to where the wound is. His eating habits have not changed. His overall demeanor has not changed. How should we treat this?

Ouch, poor Ash! I would have this checked out by a vet. This bump could be an abscess, which is a localized pocket of infection. The vet can also treat this wound. Give the vet a call today to make him an appointment. I hope this helps!
