My hamster has a sudden lump on its throat or chin. What is it?

I have a fancy bear hamster. Approximately 1 years old. Today he suddenly had a large lump on his throat. It’s not by his cheek pouches, but more under his chin between the chin and chest area. What could this be?

Hello, This growth is likely either an infection or tumor. An infection, such as an abscess, could grow rather quickly and may be able to be drained completely under sedation by a veterinarian. If the growth is a type of tumor, surgical removal and sending the mass to a pathologist would be the best way to determine the exact type of tumor and if it is benign or malignant. I would recommend taking him into a vet to be seen to ensure that it is not causing him pain. I hope this is helpful! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
