My senior cat is not eating, throwing up bile. Is she dying?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Asking advice for a friend. Their cat is roughly 16 and has most of her teeth gone. Shes usually out, cuddly, and laying on the couch. or under the computer table at someone's feet. talking a whole ton.. but lately, she's been hiding and hasn't talked at all. For a while now she's been throwing up Bile but now she isn't eating (Wet or Dry food). If I'm correct isnt this sign's their getting ready to pass? The family has fallen on hard times so she hasn't been to a vet yet to see whats wrong..

There are number of things that could be causing the cat to be sick, including kidney failure, liver disease, heart disease, and cancer. It's very serious that she isn't eating, as when cats do not eat for going on 72 hours, they develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. The symptoms she is showing only indicates that she is sick, and not necessarily that she is ready to die. Leaving her in this condition would be cruel, as starving to death is extremely painful. She needs to see a vet immediately, and I can give some resources to help afford the vet. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Best Friends also has a list of resources that offer financial assistance on their website. http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/trouble_affording_pet.html?credit=web_id91754962 https://www.redrover.org https://www.carecredit.com http://bestfriends.org/resources/financial-aid-pets http://lessonsfromaparalyzeddog.com/when-pet-owners-cant-afford-veterinary-bills/ http://www.dogheirs.com/resources-affordable-veterinary-care/ Please have them take her into a vet immediately.
