My puppy ate adult food. How often should I feed him & what's next?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 5 months and 15 days old

How often do I feed my dog? When can I put him on adult food? Do I continue to give him a mix of wet and dry during feedings? I realized I brought a can of adult this is his third time eating it. Not sick or anything in result so far.

Great questions! Since Bingo is only 4 months old, he should be fed three times a day. Once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and once in the evening. When he is six months old, he can then be fed twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. He will not be old enough for adult food until he is one year of age. While adult food will not make him sick, it doesn't have the nutrients he needs. Puppies need higher amounts of protein, calcium, and calories than adult dogs to support their growth, and puppy food provides that for them. Make sure to give him puppy food. Yes, you can continue giving him a mix of wet and dry food. I hope this helps!
