My dog has liquid poop but no other symptoms. What can I give him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 years and 9 months old | 122 lbs

Quinn did this this morning. No vomits, no blood, no changes in environment or food. Drinking normally eating normally. What can i give him to help solidify? Cannot afford vets at moment. It looks like his biscuits liquefied.

Diarrhea (and throwing up) can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc. I would put Quinn on bland food for a day or two, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to his regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if he gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

Hello there, It sounds like Bruno has diarrhea, which can sometimes look a lot like constipation. There are a lot of different causes for diarrhea, including upset stomach, dietary sensitivity, infection, pancreatitis, and even certain types of cancer. You can try feeding Bruno a bland diet (for example a 50/50 mixture of boiled chicken and white rice) for the next day or two to see if that will improve his diarrhea. If Bruno continues to have diarrhea or develops vomiting or lethargy, I recommend taking him to the veterinarian. While there, he can have a full examination and may also need bloodwork and/or x-rays to help find the cause of his diarrhea. Hope this helps!
