My spayed kitten won't eat, vomits, and has soft stool. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 months and 25 days old | 3 lbs

I have an 11-week-old kitten who was spayed 16 days ago. Since then, she has shown little or no interest in the wet food I’d always fed her and her non-littermate brother. 7-10 days post-spay, she was lightly active, sniffed at the wet food I put down for her, and then vomited bile and had a soft stool. She’s picked at her Purina kitten chow, but still will not eat the wet food. She vomited up bile and had a soft stool again tonight at 16 days post-op. Weight and water intake are normal.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Vomiting and soft stools can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. This could also related to the procedure she had or any medications that she was put on. I recommend that you have Olive evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start her on medications to make her feel better and check her hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Good luck and have a good day!
