Something is bothering my dogs eyes. I have been to the vet twice. The first time she put him on steroid, antx drops & benadryl changed his diet from chicken & beef to strictly lamb. He doesn't have fleas. He is scratching so much that the hair around his eyes are gone & the skin is pink. Only clear drainage. What is the next step? How do you determine environmental allergies in dogs? IgE testing? What kind of blood work? He licks his paws a lot too. He walks on concrete instead of grass.

Leo is adorable! Yes, I can see that he is rubbing the hair around his eyes. Allergies can be very challenging to deal with in dogs, and there a number of diagnostic and treatment options available. We will sometimes perform blood or skin testing to look for environmental allergens. I am attaching a handout below which will have more information for you. https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951475 For a dog as young as Leo, my best suggestion is always to consult with a veterinary dermatologist. That way you will get all the right testing and treatment trials performed right away. Hopefully you can find a dermatologist near you here https://www.acvd.org/tools/locator/locator.asp?ids=16_Find_Dermatologist Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.
