My dog threw up soft, mucousy food chunks. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Female | 4 months and 29 days old | 390 lbs

Aira has thrown up 2 times this summer and they come out firm-looking, but they are actually pretty soft, with some mucous. They also have chuncks of the food that she eats. We thought it might be because she is eating too fast, but I'm not completely convinced that that's the reason why. Is it something else? If so what should I do?

Hello, sorry to hear about Aira. Given that she does not have persistent vomiting I would assume that she may be vomiting from bening reasons such as eating too fast or too much, playing around immediately after eating, or which are all of no major concern. If she ever develops more frequent vomiting or vomits more that’s 3-4 times in a day, then this would be more concerning and should be further explored. Things like parasites, ingestion of foreign objects, or a dietary indiscretions would be most likely in a puppy thus young. Hope this helps and best of luck
