What are the best low-carb diabetic cat foods with real meat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 9 years and 8 months old | 13 lbs

Why is there no diabetes cat food available with good meat instead of by products? Main ingredient on bag I almost purchased said "by products". Not only does that sound counter-productive and decreasingly unhealthy for my cat, it is pure garbage. Not to mention expensive. I would rather spend my money on meat not garbage. If you can suggest a brand that makes diabetic food for cats I would be grateful.

Actually, there are a few commercial canned cat foods that have less carbs than typical diet foods and better diet parameters> One such food is Fancy Feast, all flavors EXCEPT the tuna flavors. So if your cat likes canned food this is a great choice. I had one diabetic tom on this for 12 (!) years and he went into remission several times until he finally died at the age of 26. I have another tom right now who also is well regulated on this food with insulin. So Fancy Feast canned food without tuna is a good alternative.
