Are Alsatians too aggressive for a woman living alone to handle?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Alsatian | Male

Is Alsatian a good breed for a woman living alone ? Since I am moving out for my college , I am thinking of getting my mum (44 years ) a dog for companionship.,an Alsatian to be exact. But aren't alsatians very aggressive in nature and will a single woman be able to handle her even after a thorough socialisation ? ( Ps the dog will get proper socialisation and daily exercise it needs ., Will it bite even then ?)

Hi there. I do not recommend this breed for anyone who is not an experienced dog owner, as in my experience they are often aggressive and difficult to manage even with good training and socialization. If your mom wants a dog for companionship, I would recommend a Labrador Retriever or Golden Retriever - both of these breeds are wonderful companion dogs, and are much less likely to have serious behavior issues to manage.
