My budgie's wings and tail were cut. Will his feathers regrow?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male

I recently brought two budgies, one of them has had his flight wings cut back close to his body would they grow back? Also his tail was cut back close to his body two which seems like the main feathers are growing back slowly. My partner has tried to have a look closely under his wings to check to see if the flight feathers are growing back but he struggles and cries. Other than his wings and his tail gone he's a happy bird eats well and full of chirps, who also loves to play happily in the cage

Thank you for your question about Cripp. As long as the feathers are otherwise healthy, and Cripp is fed a well-balanced and healthy diet, his feathers should grow back. Birds routinely shed their feathers, and it is called molting. After the old feathers are lost, new feathers will grow in their place. If you would like for Cripp to be able to fly, you would not want to cut the feathers again. If you did want to prevent him from flying, you would need to have the feathers cut again. There are numerous ways to perform wing trims on birds, and you may elect to choose a less severe trim in the future. I hope that helps, and I hope you enjoy your new pets!
