My Pit Bull has bloodshot eyes and red skin around his nose. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 85 lbs

Hi there. Noticed our 1 year old pit bulls eyes are bloodshot and his skin around his nose is red as well as the white around the outside of his eyes. What would cause this? It's not rough, raised, pimply or raw.

He may have some mild allergies. If he is pawing at his face, or rubbing his face on the carpet, or if he’s squinting like his eyes hurt, please take him to your vet. Otherwise you could try an antihistamine such as Benedryl. See the attached article for dosing information. https://www.petcoach.co/pet-medication/benadryl/ I hope that’s helpful! Thanks for asking PetCoach!
