Dog has watery diarrhea, straining, pacing. Is he okay until vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 2 months old | 80 lbs

My dog started having diarrhea and now strains but only watery stool will come out. He hasn't vomited and ate this morning. He will pace and walk door to door. I called the vet but they can't get him in until 2:30. He seems anxious.

I'm sorry to hear Bruce isn't feeling well! It's good that you've made an appointment with your vet. If you can, bringing in a sample of his stool with you can help your vet examine it to rule out common issues such as parasites or infections that can cause diarrhea. In the meantime, it is best to pick up any food to help keep Bruce's stomach calm, and to try and keep him calm and resting. Moving him to a cool, quiet area, and taking him out often to relieve himself if he needs may help some until you can be seen by your vet.
