My new puppy has red eyes and is panting a lot. Is he okay?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 5 months and 3 days old | 20 lbs

Hello, I just adopted Dash yesterday. He seems to be a shepherd and Lab mix about 5 Months Old. Everything seems to be going well but since we had gotten him yesterday his eyes have been red and he has been panting. It has been hot and we have already begun excerising and training him. But we are just considered if it’s normal for his mixed breed to pant so much and if his eyes are fine. Also in your opinion do you think he would be a German Shepard or a King? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, congrats on Dash. It is warm out and his panting is likely associated with the warm weather. The redness of his eyes could indicate stress, allergies, or an eye infection. If he has no discharge or squinting on his eyes and if he does not seem bothered by them, then this is likely normal. He does have more futures of a German Shepherd dog. I would recommend that you exercise him in the morning or evenings when it’s cooler so that he does not get too hot. Hope this helps and best of luck
