My puppy's yellow stool isn't normal after eating. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered

My puppy was constipated for about three days, then one night he had diarrhoea and through the night he passed some of the felt off of a tennis ball, so I am assuming he ate then when we didn’t realise, he’s been on chicken and rice for about three days and his stool is only just regaining some shape to it, but has changed to a yellowish colour, in all other aspects he is fine, no loss in appetite, no tenderness or his belly, still active, Why hasn’t his stool gone back to normal yet?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. When a dog experiences GI upset secondary to something he ate, it can result in a bacterial overgrowth in the gut. This is normal bacteria that are supposed to be there, but an imbalance in the bacterial populations. This can require an antibiotic to restore the normal balance. So if his stool is not returning to a normal consistency, you will want him to see his veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
