My dog's poop is orange with white slime after vet meds. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 30 lbs

Dog spent 2 days and evenings at vet, had blood work done along with X-rays, an IV etc. No results for her pooing blood (pure) which is what made us take her. She was put on antibiotics, a GI food, and 2 other stomach medications to also treat ulcers. She just went now and we are concerned with the orange colour and the white slimy matter. We are taking her to a kennel while we are gone a week. Concerned with the picture pls advise.

Hello. I would not be too concerned about her stool. It is firming up & the medications may be responsible for the odd coloring. Her intestines are still healing, so a bit of mucus is normal. As long as her appetite is improving she should continue to do well. I would recommend putting her on a probiotic a few days before you leave & have the kennel staff administer it during her stay. FortiFlora or a recommendation from your vet would be a good start. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
