My male guinea pigs are dominant. When can they live together safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Male | unneutered | 4 months old

My oldest guinea pig really seems to like Cosmo he often purrs and wheeks at the sight of Cosmo in his separate cage. On the floor how ever the oldest rumble struts a lot and he tries to mount him and Chase him. Does this seem like good progression, and is there any hope that the two can be housed together soon? If so when do you think they should be housed together?

Based on the behavior you are describing I would not recommend housing these pigs together right now. The older pig is exhibiting some signs of dominance which can quickly turn to aggression. I would recommend allowing them to interact and play with each other under your supervision. If you ever notice that these behaviors stop then you can try housing them together. I hope this helps.
