There are not great reliable test for FIP. it is a mutated form of a corona virus. most cats are exposed to corona viruses and the test are unable to differentiate between the two forms. It is not considered to be a contagious disease. If the other animals have the mutated form, then they can contract the disease, but it is not overly common. Did the fluid ever get analzyed or tested? At that age, cancer such as lymphoma is a possibility to cause fluid build up also.
