Puppy deworming: Is changing poop color normal or a concern?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 4 lbs

My puppy is in the process of deworming this is his third day of deworming medicine, and also has 4 more days to finish his anemia medicine he had/has roundworms. I took him to the vet here where I stay and he tested negative for parvo, Ive been deworming him since. He has energy, is eating, and drinking water on and off. But his poop changes colors everyday is this normal the very first day he pooped out lots of adult worms I did not get a picture of that, I have pics of second day to now.

The stools can change rather frequently when there is something going on in his GI tract. The first picture looks like there may have been streaks of blood in it. If he is still having blood in his stool, I would have your vet recheck him. If it is just now a little soft/runny and he is eating and drinking and acting normally, then this is likely okay and most likely secondary to the dewormer. I would watch him closely. If he isn't improving, I would have your vet recheck him as well to ensure he isn't getting dehydrated and doesn't need any additional meds. You can also try giving him a little plain, sugar free yogurt for the probiotics. I hope this helps!
