My dog's eye is half-closed after a leash injury. Is it scratched?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 56 lbs

I accidentally hurt my dog while playing. I was swinging around his leach and he ran into it and hurt his eye with the loop (not the metal side) and he whimpered. When I inspected, I saw a hair in his eye which I proceeded to take our but his eye is still half closed. I’m not sure what to do :( could his cornea be scratched?

His cornea could be scratched, but you'll need to have your veterinarian examine Ares and stain the eye to diagnose corneal injury. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent pawing or rubbing and have him seen by your veterinarian tonight or in the morning. If Ares is very painful, have him seen tonight at the nearest veterinary ER.
