My puppy pees inside. Can I potty train her outside before all shots?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 1 day old | 25 lbs

I have a German shepherd with her first round of shots she doesn't poop in doors she's doing really good with that part but pees a lot indoors even with wee pads my brother who is a dog owner strongly suggest that I don't take her outside until the fourth round of shots but I don't want to reverse the good she doing with going number two outside what should I do ? Thank you

Hi there. Unless you have reason to think that a dog with parvo was recently in your yard, there is no reason you can't go ahead and potty train her to do her business outside. This is what most dog owners do, with no problems at all :) I do not usually recommend pee pad training unless you are planning to continue having her use a pee pad indoors for her entire life, because it can be very confusing for the dog when she gets older and you want to re-train her to go outdoors. Much better to train her to go outside from the start!
