My cat struggles to breathe, grunts, and slumps. Asthma or stress?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 11 years and 6 months old | 6.6 lbs

It seems like my cat has problems with breathing but I’m not sure if it’s breathing or stress, she is like this 24/7 she also don’t want to lie in any other position. When she walks to go for food or litter box she literally slumps over to catch her breath. The vet says it’s stress but I think this is difficulty in breathing or asthma. She also makes a load grunting noise when I touch her. Any suggestions? Posting a pic won’t explain what I mean, is there anywhere where I can sand a video?

If this is something that is continuing I would recommend getting an x-ray of her to make sure there is nothing going on with her lungs. She should not be stopping to catch her breath. Is there another vet you can go to? Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach
