9 week old kitten. Had been dewormed twice before we took her home last week. Having diarrhea. Only like wet food and people food. Won't eat dry kitten food. How do we stop the diarrhea? Thanks.

Even though Coco has been dewormed twice she could still have intestinal parasites like coccidia that would not be susceptible to standard dewormers. Other causes of diarrhea include infections or food sensitivities. I would recommend seeing a vet for a fecal analysis. If it is normal you can discuss diet changes that could help, like increasing fiber or trying a limited ingredient diet.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Tiberius. Great question. Normally deworming doesn't cause diarrhea but not every kitten is the same and reacts the same. If the diarrhea doesn't stop or if other signs arise, I would have him checked out by your veterinarian. Tan diarrhea with a foul odor can be a sign of coccidiosis, a very small parasite that can invade the small intestines. Sometimes there is blood with this parasitic infection but not always. So, get him checked out if this continues. Good luck with Tiberius

I am sorry to hear that Owen is not feeling well. It sounds as though his attitude is that of a happy kitten and this is a very positive sign. I would recommend having a veterinarian test Owen's stool to 1) confirm that Owen has worms (which is a very common cause of diarrhea in puppies and kittens) and 2) identify said worm(s) and make sure the right deworming medication is being used. It is also common that puppies and kittens require more than one deworming to completely clear up the worm burden. This is at least a place to start. There are certainly other things that can cause diarrhea, but we try to look for the common things first. Hopefully this was helpful information and Owen starts feeling better soon.
