How to safely introduce a new, friendly guinea pig to my two?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | 2 months and 8 days old | 10 lbs

Would I be able to add a new guinea pig in with my other two? I got them from a shelter and I didn't realize that meant them being unsociable. They're still really sweet and I love them but I also want an animal that I can hold and will comfort me. Will a guinea pig from the store be as unsocial? And is it safe to add a new guinea pig to a cage with two guinea pigs (that know eachother very well)

If you obtain a young guinea pig and socialize with it daily then it will likely be more social. I would hesitate putting it in with the other two until they have spent a lot of time together , under supervision, with good success. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
