My dog's eyelid is swollen and leaking. Can he wait to see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Labrador | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 9 days old | 8 lbs

My dog has a swollen eyelid and I’m not sure really what it could be. It is leaking some fluid & it doesn’t seem to bother him. His eye is okay and no scratches. I want to take him to the vet, but they’re all closed today. Do you think he is okay to wait until tomorrow if I can get him in?

It could be an infection, allergic reaction, or secondary to trauma. Since it is so swollen, it would be best to have him examined and treated by a vet as soon as possible. You could take him to an emergency clinic in your area for treatment. Otherwise, if he is acting normal and doesn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort then call your vet first thing in the morning to schedule an appointment.
