My dog ate grass, vomited, and is staggering. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | spayed | 8 years and 3 months old | 80 lbs

My 8 yr old rottweiller went to the garden ate grass and was sick, she then almost collapsed and was unable to walk without staggering.i took her indoors and dampenned her down. She has had water and is walking ok. Shes quite lethargic. If it should happen again i will take her to my vets but for now should i just let her rest? Do you think its heat or maybe a stroke? Thanks in advance, Tara

If she was in direct sunlight it could be it, otherwise i doubt it. It sounds as Roxy is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
